Ace Hardware Coming to Lake Boone Shopping Center

Owens Hardware has signed a long-term lease to open a 9,600 square foot store at 2462 Wycliff Road in Lake Boone Shopping Center. Slated to open in the spring/summer of 2024, this will be the sixth location for Owens Hardware, a family-owned home improvement retailer whose relationship with Ace Hardware provides national chain buying power, access to hundreds of thousands of products, and premium merchandise brands like Craftsman, Scotts, Benjamin Moore, EGO, Weber, Stihl, Yeti and others. Residents and shoppers can look forward to access to top national brands and attentive customer service right in the heart of the west Raleigh community.

Owner-operator Paul Owens says he is excited and looking forward to growing the business. “When the opportunity came up to open a new store in our backyard, we jumped on it. We are confident that this expansion will not only benefit our business, but also give us more opportunities to give back to the community we grew up in. We want our customer’s shopping experience to be elevated and enjoyable. We plan to offer a large gift section, as well as the traditional items you expect to find in a hardware store.”

York’s Partnership with the Sansom Family

We were delighted to have Julian Sansom-Goodman, local senior at Enloe High School, intern with us last summer and assist the brokerage. Enloe’s academy design club required students to complete 120 hours of intern work to supplement the club’s learning objectives and we were happy to offer Julian that opportunity with us.

Julian’s first choice for college this fall is Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, where he hopes to receive a baseball scholarship. Julian would be the third generation of his family to attend. He is planning to major in business administration.

Our relationship with the Sansom family goes back many years. Julian’s grandfather, Joseph Sansom (pictured), has partnered with our company on several business deals. One of the most notable of which is managing Southgate Plaza, a popular shopping center in southeast Raleigh.

Joseph worked at IBM for many years after graduating college. During that time, he was also drafted to serve in the army. Joseph later retired from IBM and became the first Black N.C. Deputy State Treasurer. He has been involved with Mechanics & Farmers Bank throughout his professional career and is currently Chairman of the Raleigh City Advisory Board.

The goal of Mechanics & Farmers Bank is to serve the community by providing essential services as a full-service commercial bank. M&F Bank was founded in 1907 and is the second oldest minority-owned bank in the US.

Joseph’s long term hopes for his working relationship with York is to continue serving the community for years to come and expanding the business throughout Raleigh. His favorite part of being business partners with us is collaborating with the creative and open-minded people on our team.

Honeygirl Meadery Moving to American Tobacco Campus

York is excited to announce local mead company Honeygirl Meadery is moving its Downtown Durham operations to the American Tobacco Campus in 2024. With this move, the Meadery will be doubling in size and will be operating under the name of its ownership group, Ment Beverage Co. The ownership group is led by Robby Battle, an industry veteran.

Construction for a 3,000 SF tasting room and production space is underway at 300 Blackwell Street (the Noell Building). This location will include two bars and both indoor and outdoor seating. Ment Beverage Co. will offer new beverage options in addition to mead, such as cider, local beer, distilled spirits, and nonalcoholic sparkling beverages.

The space will become a part of the social district, known as the Bullpen. This will allow customers to walk along the grounds and take their drinks with them. The space is expected to open in early 2024.

York broker Robert Hoyt represented Ment Beverage in the transaction.
